I hopefully getting a TBX 14.2hh mare called Belle, she will be the first pony I bought myself (I have ownership of lucy but thats another story) Shes a bit fizzy and a tad underweight. What on earth will fatten her up and make her calmer?

I have no idea what to feed her so I need to startfrom scratch;

My current ideais:
Dengie Hi-Fi Lite
Ride and Relax
Garlic Granuals (Summer)
Salts (Winter)
Pasture Mix
Vegtables

Any Good?

I'm no expert and can only go on what has worked for me! Firstly you wouldn't need to feed pasture mix AND ride and relax as they are both 'complete' mixes. Personally, I wouldn't be feeding cereals to a fizzy horse until I was sure I needed to. My friend has a TB who just doesn't tolerate cereals or molasses in large amounts, makes him rather hyper and he worries his weight off. He has fibre based feeds, Rowan and Barbary Forage and Fibre, very lightly molassed chaff, speedi-beet, a balancer, usually Blue Chip and as much good hay or haylage as he can eat.

I would start with a chaff, some unmolassed sugar beet, a balancer to make sure she gets all her vits and mins, and some vegetable oil to give extra calories, on top of ad lib forage. Vegetables added are fine too and I would provide a salt lick to let her take what she needs.

If you find she can't maintain a good weight on this, I'd recommend taking the advice of a good local feed merchant or one of the feed companies, most of which give good advice over the phone or by email.

Oh, and this should have been first, has she had her teeth checked?

Hope that helps a little :)

i agree with Thistle... i wouldnt feed Pasture Mix...

I'd feed her speedibeet and hifi lite with vegie oil and ad lib hay...
so same as Thistle said! Remember not to change feed suddenly, so may be worth finding out what she's being fed currently x

If you want weight gain I wouldn't feed hi fi lite as this is not designed to gain weight. Maybe hifi original or alfa a / oil
the tb's & warmbloods on our yard can all be quite fizzy & hard to keep condition on. I also try & avoid cereals with my tb.
Ours wintered last year on calm & condition with alfa a oil & naf pink powder - in fact i started that part way through winter & my horse gained loads of weight & never got too full of beans! They will be on the same this winter possibly with the addition of baileys outshine for a little extra condition.
Unmolassed beet is great for adding condition without sending them bonkers too!
Would def recommend trying the calm & condition - we sell it at our shop & it is becoming more & more popular.

Never tried myself but my Tb apparently goes into orbit on mixes too, I feed alfalfa, linseed meal and vits and mins, along with speedibeet once the grass tails off.

She had her teeth done last wednesday she is currently on trail for 2 weeks now and she doesnt have a feed at all, no hay or haylage and when I asked why I was told she didnt need it because she was on grass all year round but when I move her she will be stabled in winter so id like to keep her with a full tummy at night and add a few pounds
