New 2026 Hacking / riding thread

We've got sub zero temperatures forecast for the foreseeable so not likely to be riding either. If I can brave the cold this weekend I might have a go at the 'step on' challenge in hand.

Nothing thawed here yesterday, forecast says it won’t for a few more days but it’s dry cold so I’m hoping to get out later šŸ¤žšŸ¤ž

I feel like I'm a long way off getting on board. LOL we are officially snowed in! Hahaa. We don't have a four wheel drive anymore but even if we did the drifts are far too bad. Been caught out with that once before, never again! Currently making my own home made cat litter. Was due to go shopping today - didn't realise how bad it was going to get! The horses are not impressed and I can't tempt the terrible two out of the byre! Zi hates snow with a passion. :( šŸ™„

New Year started well for me - New Year's day was showery so I didn't go far and luckily didn't manage to get too wet. Sadly it all went downhill from there when Friday brought snow. It wasn't much, just enough to stop any riding!

Snow Pony! (this was one of the quieter moments before he was standing on his back legs with me looking up at his front hooves!)

Oh Harvey! It sounds like the snow affected him 😜

Still no nearer to riding here. Most of the snow has gone, but it is so windy. Too windy even for in hand stuff. I am so looking forward to getting back on board though.

First outing of the year
I haven't forgotten the thread. I couldn't really start off with her half a mile to the farrier could I 😁

Anyway little lunge. I think she's lost some weight off her neck as I needed to shorten the hi viz that sits round it since last time we went out with it.
Met the local puss cat who wasn't sure of her, they must look enormous to a cat or a dog.

Still no riding for me either. By Thursday the snow had gone but the ground was still frozen - I turned Harvey out for a couple of hours while I could monitor him. He seemed to enjoy it but was ready to come back in. Friday was heavy snow and on Saturday we couldn't even get the cars onto the yard - they had to stay by the gate. We managed to clear the walker and I tried Harvey on it, but he wasn't at all keen so he didn't get too long. On Sunday I dug across the ice to the field and managed to get Harvey out to hand graze for an hour. It was hard going as the ice kept balling in his hooves so I had to clear them ever couple of minutes. Its fair to say I am looking forwards to spring!

Not a great success!

Its hard work this snow isn't it. Thankfully ours is gone but there's weird balls of it hiding by the roadside here. Harvey is like Zi - lol, he has been going out for max an hour and a half and then comes back inside. Even hardy Fuzzy doesn't seem keen. What a pain and yes, roll on spring!

Yaye first ride of the year today. What a good girl, bit cheeky but to be expected in the winter. Her version of "sharp" is pulling a face before I get on and speeding up on the way back. LOL. She treated me to a full on spin cycle though - hahahaa. Wasn't expecting it for some reason and she caught me by surprise. Mr Trews only witnessed the tail end of it, good job I find it funny! Soon as I'd whipped her tack off she went down for a megga roll. So I will let her off the dog-shake, I guess she was just super itchy today. Her coat is looking a bit raggy, its that time of year. Terrible mud at the start but she picked her way so carefully bless her, she's such a steady foot sure beast. I need to come up with a better plan for the dog-shakes though as once again I seemed to bend my thumbs onto her neck - must put grab strap on perhaps.

Another little sit on the Fuzzy one today. I pre-empted her spin cycle and hopped off (she only does it at the end of our session). Once again she went straight down for a roll. Blimey she is full of mud now. Glad she rolled after our ride and not before lol

We've had a light frost but I might give it a go - the sun is out so hoping it will melt the bit that's slippery on the way down the field.

Well, day three of hopping on and doing top half of the field - short and sweet (and hope not to get spin dried hahahaha). Mr T took a pic when I'd got off - he only just remembered he had the phone with him.IMG_3412.jpg
(That's her lovely Lemeiux cloth Santa brought for her). And I'm wearing a bp under that coat so look a bit Michelin Man! 🤭

Lunge and leg stretch watching the mist clear and getting photos.
She wants to be doing more than this now so will hop on next time and have a mooch about.

I was in a t shirt with thin jacket and still too warm. I did see someone in shorts though it's saying 9 degrees but as we know that's the shade
