New 2026 Hacking / riding thread

Another mini potter for me today. I think Fuz is slowly getting back into the swing of it, there was no dog shaking and she seemed quite willing and not in a rush. Lovely sunshine too - though its gone nippy again now. I just wish the daylight was lasting a bit more, though it was a bit lighter on the way home from town late afternoon today. Roll on spring I say! 🐴 😍 🌻

Ridden 30 minutes from yard, she was pufffing before we went out as had got hrself into a tizz wozz before going out, quite fresh and forward when she came home instead of having her snack meal when I took her bridle off she galloped up the field with saddle on.....she is out rugless as i did not see why i should drag her rug up the field when she caused the issue herself....naughty madam.

Hacked out 30 minutes she was very good including passing a huge tractor and trailer with all their lights on, took up most of the lane. Shut the field gate before I took her bridle off....after she had eaten she went hammering up the field bucking and kicking

2026 seems to have had more non riding days already than the whole of 2025 for me. Heavy rain quickly cleared the snow, but didn't look much fun to ride in. Luckily Friday was dry and I got my first ride for nearly 3 weeks. I knew Harvey would want a run so I took him to the canter bridleway. What was supposed to be a bit of a leg stretch turned into a flat out gallop so we both had fun. I took him back the next day for a repeat performance. Sunday was a return to rain :(

Walked out in hand today 25 minutes seems stiff, her osteo is due to come out today, just as well, she is not striding out as she should in front, had hoof boots on, suspect bad news.

The weather was a bit better this week, but still showery. That coupled with several road closures meant I didn't go too far. It was great to be riding again though (apart from Sunday when it rained all day!)

28.01.25Looked a bit stiff on yard, walked in hand 25 minutes, bit slow, boots on front, not very interested, did not perk up and stride out when turned for home.
01.02.25Walked up to top of hill before midgard, turned back, still dull 20 minutes only

02.02.25Walked out with boots on front, just down to Bells but was more animated, did a couple of tiny trots, then she stood at yard and chatted to man with labrador, she was very nuzzly and interested, talkative, eyes bright not dull more like herself.
Galloped up field after neighbour went up road in his rally car at 50mph backfiring, just where i had been walking her. Total nutter.

First walk out of the year. She must have grabbed something prickly out of the hedge judging by her face 😂
She was a minx to get in, took off up the field, so just caught her and went out as she was, filthy. Put tape across the other paddock so she what she gets up to next time. It's all changed for her though with the second one, but they are getting on really well and it's only been three months.

2026 is still feeling like an endurance test - I have to admit that I'm glad Harvey is on part livery when its like this. I did manage to ride 3 times this week - a couple of blasts down the bridleway to blow out the cobwebs and a quick hack round between showers. Sunday was all day rain, so I didb't ride and Harvey had an extra hand graze

Funny you should say about part livery.
I was thinking full livery is looking very attractive to me at the moment. It would feel like a holiday😂
I just rock up to ride and have absolutely no jobs whatsoever.
What do you get for part these days, you put out at the end of the day or bring in at the start?
The month has started okay though because they are both a paddock nearer the gate and I have put up a walk way to stop mine doing a runner across the field, the minx.

Normally with part everything is done from Monday to Friday and the weekends are your responsibility. My livery is slightly different as I also get turnout done at weekends too. This works well because they all get their breakfast at the same time and nobody gets left in or out on their own (and also means I don't have to get up early!)

His mane looks lovely and well groomed. I am a bad mum at the mo, can't face grooming ours, its so wretched here right now. I too would like part livery lol I remember those days................Mr T keeps threatening to move and put them on a yard. Not sure how I would feel about that!
