New 2026 Hacking / riding thread

Had my first riding injury with AJ yesterday - he took a flying leap into some water through a narrow gateway and nearly took the gatepost out with my leg. There was someone else about so I had to pretend it didn't hurt and after a few minutes it didn't really šŸ˜…

Other than that it was a good ride, he made out he was going to be scared at some passing cars but with just a little telling off he was fine with them.

Today I just schooled in the field, but he wasn't really up for it. I'm not used to it being hard work.

Pictures of the little darling .. hard to believe this is the same horse who as a 2 year old only looked at me with his head (and a virtual middle finger) up, and the whites of his eyes showing.

Oh he's so beautiful isn't he. Sorry to hear your leg got hurt - ouchy. Hope no harm done. What a bonny lad he is.

Well I never, she's a little minx so she is. This morning she was covered in mud so took a while to get her clean enough to tack up. She was itchy as on the way out of the byre she decided she was going to have a bum rub on the brickwork. So asked her to move on whereby she did a big dog shake which I was glad she did before I got on board. Hopped on and set off but she felt as though she was going to go down for a roll, pushed her on a bit further and she was fine. When I got off I expected her to go down asap for a roll but did she? Nope, little minx just trotted off then started eating! Hahaha. There was me worried she was going to roll with me on board! To be fair there's a lot of floof coming off her at the moment. I will be glad when her proper spring / summer coat comes through 🐓 🌻🤭

First hack of the year.
More nosey than her normal nosey šŸ˜‚
Just went round the shortest route and can build up from there.
She's still slightly in season if the hump don't even go near my arse with that exercise sheet is too go by, but she did line herself up next to the bench so I could get on.

4 days riding in a row - its feels like the first time this year that has happened. I took Harvey to stretch his legs on the bridleway on 3 of the days - on the fourth I cut the ride short as I could see rain on the way and just got back as it started.

Had a little hack yesterday before the rain came. We spotted someone in the distance on the bridlepath ahead. AJ pricked his ears and carried on as normal and it prompted the memory of when we were in the exact same situation a while ago and he had a hissy fit about it. I don't know when his behaviour changed. I can't put my finger on a time when he stopped being a stresshead and became a delightful hacking buddy. How did that happen without me noticing?

A very warm and sunny pootle today - didn't need a jacket over my bp! Hurrah for that. The mud is drying up nicely too. Its a wonder she's not bald though lol the amount of coat that came out before I tacked her up. I could have made a jumper out of it all! So warm and sunny here today - feels like spring has sprung 🌻 :D 🐓

Didn't go on the ride but Harmony did an energetic 50 minutes in very strong head wind. I am trying to make cakes for mum and dad's ashes scattering next week, and some of the folks who were due to collect hens from the hen rescue yesterday didn't come and are coming today. On the plus side, I got out when it was dry, the time of the ride it was quite heavy rain so missed that.

No pottering about for me today, which is a shame as the weather is lovely here. Zi is lame so I'm playing musical horses and juggling everyone around and trying to make sure Fuz gets grass and Storm gets paddock time - whilst keeping the big ginger one happy on the yard. Its normally so simple! Hopefully it won't be for much longer. :( 🐓 🌻

Its still very wet here. I took Harvey for a run on the bridleway and there was a puddle on the canter bit which has never happened before - Harvey took the most enormous and dramatic leap over it 🤣. On Saturday there was even some sun so I ventured further than I have for a while

Harvey heading home as fast as he can (a pace I call stomp as its not very comfortable!)

I can finally join in on this thread. I rode today for the first time this year. First time since either end of Oct, beginning of Nov, 4 months either way. Was just awesome to be back in the saddle, rode the same horse I did last time. Didnt canter but did a couple of very short trots. We did the 4 mile loop.

Welcome back to the land of the living - there's no feeling like it. So pleased for you.
